Airlie Beach! What an iconic Australian destination. Known for it's tourists and backpackers, beautiful beaches, nightlife and the laid back vibe! It's also the gateway to the Whitsunday Islands and the Great Barrier Reef, this flourishing hub is the ideal base for some adventure! We chose to stay at the BIG4 Airlie Cove and we had such a great time.
6 months ago Cyclone Debbie hit the Whitsunday Coast and devastated the area. In the short time since, the vegetation has grown back surprisingly well and the town is returning to it's beautiful former self. You’ll notice around town some of the parts that were damaged badly and still awaiting repairs. Shute Harbour was probably the worst affected and the damage there gives you an idea of how powerful Debbie must have been. Well done to the Airlie Beach locals, it must have been a massive clean up effort after such a big Cyclone. Scary Stuff!!
So much to do in this hip coastal town. The lagoon is a must, with heaps of shade and grass around and shallow pools for the kids we had a great day lazing by the pool and soaking up the Whitsunday sunshine. We stopped in at the Saturday morning markets that offer a great range of food, coffee, handmade goods, local arts and craft, fresh fruit and vegetables. Afterwards take a stroll down the Main Street of Airlie as there is plenty of shops, pubs and cafes to checkout.
If you want to just relax and unwind for your stay, the BIG4 Airlie Cove is a perfect place to do so. Let the kids run amuck in the huge waterpark or pool with waterslide while you watch from one of the day beds provided. There is a great camp kitchen and bbq area that overlooks the jumping pillow and large playground. The perfect place for drinks and nibbles and to catch up with other travellers while the kids are entertained for hours!
Most of the sites come with concrete slabs which makes parking up a breeze. Plenty of grass and shade with heaps of room for the kids to ride their bikes. Located only 2km from town the buses come and go often and there is a bus stop right out the front of the park. There’s a games and internet room and you can also book tours from reception.
It's a Perfect family holiday for the caravanners and there is heaps of other accommodation available with some cool villa's & cabins on offer.
If your into great coffee and delicious food, head down to the Abel Point marina and check out Bohemian Raw. A ripping little cafe that does some great healthy food and the best coffee we found in Airlie Beach.
Be sure to stop in at Airlie Beach for a week, it’s definitely a spot not to be missed on your travels around OZ!
CHEERS - TRIP IN A VAN
The Nobby Beach Holiday Village is a family owned park with a big focus on providing great facilities and amenities to all it's visitors. The grounds and caravan sites are fully landscape and maintained to perfection providing heaps of shade and grass to park up on.
The BIG4 CAPRICORN PALMS HOLIDAY VILLAGE was where we chose to stay for our time in Yeppoon. With it's great location and the amazing facilities, it was an easy choice when researching where we would park up for our time here.
After a few months across the Top End of Australia and a quick trip down the centre to Uluru, we were excited to hit Cairns and see some beautiful coastline again! The weather has been absolutely mint and there is so much to see and do.
We have come across quite the surprise in the town of Alice Springs and the BIG4 MacDonnell Ranges Holiday Park. Before we arrived into Alice, we were not thinking of it as the second largest town in the Territory. We thought it was going to be a quick stopover to refresh and stock up on groceries before we headed down to The Rock.
The relaxed atmosphere and accomodation will be what keeps you coming back to stay whenever you visit Darwin! Spacious grassy sites, a jumping pillow, afternoon tunes by the pool and kids activities was what we loved the most!
A working cattle station located 3km from the Adelaide River township in NT. It has some fantastic history and a great stopover offering a range of accomodation from cottages to caravan and camping. The station is pet friendly and has an abundance of farming animals and wildlife.
A fantastic caravan park right beside a natural Hot Springs in the middle of the Northern Territory, who wouldn't want to stay here!!!! River Tourist Village - Katherine NT
Pardoo Station is the perfect way to relax and enjoy the surrounds. Great fishing, big grassy sites, pool and an onsite restaurant - you can't go wrong!
So, you're about to head off on your travels!! Excitement and fear is starting to set in as you pack up your home. Below we will give you some handy tips on packing up your house and how to prepare for this big task.
Congratulations on taking one of the biggest leaps and deciding to travel Australia. We reckon its a ballsy decision and one you'll be forever grateful for doing. Packing it all in for an adventure of a lifetime sure is daunting! You've done your research on google, gathered maps and travel brochures and following families who are travelling Oz just like us!
Now, we eat pretty darn well, very healthy (chocolate's healthy yeah?). It's important to us to have a balance of good foods and give our three kids all the proper nutrition they need. I'm no expert, but I just want them fuelled with the good stuff! They sleep well, their behaviour is great (most of the time) and they have plenty of energy, so food is key to a happy healthy child. Our kids don't cope real well on preservatives and sugar so I try to give them very little of this.
One of the common questions we are asked is what exactly do we eat while travelling. So, here is a little breakdown for you.

We stayed at the BIG4 Airlie Cove and it was Perfect.......
We based ourselves at the BIG4 Woodlands Holiday Park which is a 10 min drive just north of town. It's a huge park with great big caravan sites and amazing facilities for the family. It's a mecca for the kid's.
We've arrived in the beautiful tropical destination of Mission Beach.
Situated smack bang in-between Cairns and Townsville. Only 1.5hrs from either. We have based ourselves at the BIG4 Beachcomber Coconut Holiday Park in South Mission Beach which is right on the water.
How do we stay alert on the road, without drinking coffee??
With the amount of kilometres we travel in our touring lifestyle, this is a question that we get asked a lot!!!
CAPE YORK AND THE OLD TELEGRAPH TRACK!!
For this Adventure, we teamed up with Oztrail Leisure Products and they supplied us with some unreal products that we used on our trip to the top of Cape York!
