With the amount of kilometres we travel in our touring lifestyle, this is a question that we get asked a lot!!!
How do we stay alert on the road, without drinking coffee??
We try to keep our travel days short, it's easier on the kids if they're not stuck in the car all day, and it's a lot less stressful on the parents as well!! But some days when your in remote parts of the country and you’ve got a long drive ahead, the only option (one might think) is to down a double espresso before you hit the road!!
But this leaves you jittery and wired and when the coffee hit is finished, the co-driver/wife falls asleep and your left on your own with nothing but straight stretches of boring road to stay alert and awake.
We have found an alternative!!!
We have been using this product now for the last few months and have found it so helpful in not only our travel days to stay alert, but also great for staying focused and inventive when writing our travel articles and editing video's. This is massive for us as it's now a part of how we make our income while on the road. What is this magic drink you say???
It's called Matcha and we simply substitute our morning coffee for a matcha latte and the results have been Awesome!! We have also been making some of the great no-bake recipes from their website which are great healthy snacks while driving.
Matcha - the Japanese herbal tea - has been used for over 800 years in Japan to enhance energy and concentration.
THE MATCHA TURMERIC LATTE
MY GO TO BEVERAGE FOR FOCUS AND CONCENTRATION.
Matcha contains caffeine but unlike coffee, the caffeine here is absorbed much slower, over a period of 6-8 hours. This steady release of caffeine gives a more sustainable energy boost, prevents those sleepless nights, and keeps that ‘jittery’ caffeine feeling away.
It also contains the amino acid, theanine, which is known for it’s ability to promote a calm feeling of zen. It has been shown to increase the alpha waves in the brain, usually 40 minutes after consuming theanine, and increase dopamine levels too. So it’s been proven to help you feel zen - and happy too!
Theanine features in most teas, but matcha tea has a high concentration, due to the way matcha plantations are shaded before harvest.
Finally, matcha is crammed full of vitamins and minerals which keep you healthy on the road. One cup of matcha contains 3.25mg of calcium, 1.85mg of Vitamin C, 20.5mg of potassium, and 274mg of protein - which outweighs superfoods like acai and goji berries. One cup of matcha is equivalent to approximately 10 cups of standard green tea, and contains 137x more antioxidants.
So the steady release of caffeine - coupled with the calm feeling from the theanine, and benefits from the vitamins, and antioxidants - help's increase your alertness, while you are on the road. It's definitely works for us!
We have partnered with our friends at Zen Green Tea - a premium boutique green tea from Australia - who have given our readers an exclusive 10% discount on their matcha products.
So how can you get Matcha into your life??
You can either swap your coffee for a matcha latte by simply adding matcha to a milk of your choice, or we have some no-bake and road-friendly recipes to help introduce it into your diet.
