MISSION BEACH FUN!! TROPICAL NORTH QUEENSLAND
We've arrived in the beautiful tropical destination of Mission Beach.
Situated smack bang in-between Cairns and Townsville. Only 1.5hrs from either. We have based ourselves at the BIG4 Beachcomber Coconut Holiday Park in South Mission Beach which is right on the water. A surf club across the road for safe beach swimming and a great hire business where you can get anything from kayaks to jet skis and hit the water for some fun!
The humidity is starting to kick in around Tropical North QLD (it is the 1st of October) , so the resort style pool here at the BIG4 is pure heaven. With a kiddie pool for toddlers and a water slide for older kids, our three were very much entertained. Bribery definitely comes into play when we decide it's time to leave. A playground on site, plenty of room for the kids to ride their bikes and the wandering Cassowary's to watch keep us all happy. Only 50m from our site is the beach, so we grab a coffee from the caravan parks cafe and head down for a morning dip! Its a patrolled beach on the weekends, so we feel very safe from stingers and the big lizards.
The township of Mission Beach it is a hive of activity. The Best way to describe it is like a small slice of Airlie Beach. With a Hippie feel and lots of quirky cafes and shops, it's a great place to spend a few hours strolling through and taking it all in.
Be sure to check out when the markets are on in town, there are several that take place on different weekends and a great place to pick up some local produce and some great craft and clothing. There are plenty of backpackers and holiday makers about in the cafes and restaurants which give the town a great holiday vibe.
Some family fun at the Mission Beach markets
If you're an adventure seeker, you can take a trip out to Dunk Island , a reef trip or fishing charter to the Great Barrier Reef or Skydive and land on the sands of Mission Beach. Plenty of activities to see and do, or just take in the scenery and relax by the beach or pool at the Beachcomber Coconut Holiday Park . With plenty of accommodation options to choose from with great cabins and bungalows and some massive powered slab sites, it's worth your while booking in here when you plan your stay at Mission Beach.
Cheers - Justin & Bec

Two of the most beautiful places in Australia and they're only 640km apart. From the insanely blue and clear waters of Cape Range National Park to the deep red colours of Karijini National Park. These are two locations that you definitely shouldn’t miss when travelling Australia. I’m going to tell you the highlights and how we tackled these amazing parts of Oz.
Travelling Australia is something we’ve always wanted to do. Explore each and every state, chase the sunshine, live by the beach and have quality time together as a family. It's very appealing isn't it! Deciding to travel Australia is a very daunting decision, an exciting one too! Looking back now, I think that its a pretty courageous decision, to pack up your life and drive into a world of unknown.
Kununurra in WA through to Kakadu, NT is one of our favourite stretches. The diversity of landscape is incredible and you can go from red dust to waterfall to coastline in no time. An epic adventure!
Below is our itinerary.
Leaving your home, family and friends, selling all your belonging to hit the road on a trip of lifetime! Its very daunting, exciting and a whirlwind of emotions. After lots of conversation with each other, we were expectant of an adjustment period but nothing can prepare you for it. Other than patience and a lot of it!
In this itinerary we tackle one of Australia's great tourist regions,"The Great Barrier Reef". We travel with our caravan in tow from Brisbane to Cairns and explore as much as we can along the way! There are so many great tours, attractions, campsites and scenery to discover along this coastline. We hope you can use this itinerary to help plan your own "Ultimate Great Barrier Reef Drive" - Cheers!!
So far we have done a full lap of Oz and been on the road since Dec 2015. We left from gorgeous Newcastle, NSW and headed north. We chose to go anti clockwise to do Cape York at the start of the dry season and to miss the migration of travellers heading south and across the bottom.
When setting off on your caravan travels, there are a few things we suggest to set yourself up for touring.
1. Good floor matting 2. A few 240volt leads to reach every power box 3. A few water hoses and a waste hose for the van as well as a flexible one for an outdoor shower. READ MORE…..
